Summary Of The Book
Meluha Ke Mritunjay is the Hindi version of the first book of the Shiva Trilogy, The Immortals of Meluha.
The story is set in the land of Meluha, based around the present-day Indus Valley Civilization, which is depicted in the book as a huge empire that thrives on the banks of the river Saraswati. Meluha is the land of the Suryavanshis, and the empire is highly developed in all respects and is deemed close to being perfect. Established several centuries before the story begins by the legendary ruler Lord Ram, Meluha is now ruled by Daksha and the chief of his army, Parvateshwar.
However, all is not well in Meluha, as countless perils threaten to tear it apart.
The main problem is that the River Saraswati, around which the civilization grew, is now slowly drying up. Added to this is the ever present danger that the Meluhans face from their old enemies, the Chandravanshis.
The Chandravanshis discreetly attack Meluha with the help of the Nagas, a strange group of people who have been isolated from the society because of their various deformities. These people possess extraordinary skills in martial acts though, and a fierce hatred for all things Meluhan.
The Suryavanshis’ final hope for relief is one mystical legend, which states that in their darkest hour, when all seems to be lost, a hero will emerge, a great warrior who will lead them out of the desperate situation. This prophecy is centered on the fact that their savior will have a blue neck.
The indications from the prophecy seem to point to a nomad from the mountains of the north, called Shiva, to be their savior. Shiva is brought to Meluha, along with his tribe. In his quest to save the legendary kingdom, Shiva has another motivation in addition to being the chosen one - the beautiful princess Sati, who captures his heart.
The Suryavanshis place their fate in Shiva’s hands, and the Chandravanshis and the Nagas prepare for a confrontation with the Meluhans. Shiva has his own internal conflicts to face, besides the epic challenge waiting for him outside the city walls.
